Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Diffline (https://diffline.app) collects, and what it does not. The short version: the text you compare never leaves your device.

The text you compare

All comparison happens in your web browser using JavaScript. The text you paste, type or open from a file is not uploaded, transmitted, stored on a server or logged. We cannot see it.

So that a page refresh does not lose your work, your text is kept in your browser's session storage while the tab is open. Session storage belongs to that one tab only: it is not shared with other tabs, it is never sent anywhere, and your browser deletes it as soon as you close the tab. Clear all removes it straight away. Very large texts (over about 2 million characters) are not kept.

Settings saved in your browser

Diffline saves your display settings (such as light or dark theme, Inline view, Ignore case, Ignore spacing and Changes only) in your browser's local storage so they are remembered next time. This data stays on your device, is never sent to us, and does not include any of your text. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any website, when your browser requests a page, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, in order to deliver the page and protect it from abuse. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Fonts

The site's fonts are served from Diffline itself, from the same address as the pages. No font request goes to Google or any other third party.

Analytics

We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are popular. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies, does not track you across websites and does not build a profile of you. It collects page views, referring sites, approximate country, and browser and device type. It never has access to the text you compare.

Advertising and cookies

Diffline does not show ads today, but may use Google AdSense in the future to help keep the tool free. If we do, this section applies:

• Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
• You can learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we will ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set. Ads never have access to the text you compare, because that text never leaves the page.

Links to other sites

Diffline may link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your data.

Children

Diffline is a general audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Because we do not collect your text or ask you for personal details, we usually hold no personal data about you. If you email us, we keep your message only as long as needed to reply. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access or delete data about you. Contact us at hello@diffline.app.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, for example when advertising is added, we will update this page and the date at the top.
